Innovation & Knowledge for Implementing ‘Smart Strategies’ in the European Union. The Lesson of the ‘Boston Area’.
The main goal of the MAPS-LED project is the interpretation of the ‘Research & Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization’ (RIS3) model for the economic and social regeneration of specific urban regions in Europe. Within the enduring global crisis, given the explosion of the Transatlantic productivity gap with North American economies and the increasing inequalities among EU Regions, the ambitious Europe 2020 vision (i.e., ‘Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive growth’) can be achieved through the strategic issue of ‘Research & Innovation’

After one year since the beginning of the MAPS-LED project, the different research units involved in the project are going to meet for the First Mid-tem meeting at Department of Economics of Northeastern University of Boston. The aim is to recap all the research activities completed so far, in full compliance of the four year programme of MAPS-LED project.
Il prossimo 12 Maggio p.v. ore 11.00 presso la Saletta PAU sarà organizzato l’incontro tra l’Assessore alla Pianificazione dello Sviluppo Urbano Sostenibile e Smart City della Città di Reggio Calabria ed il Sottosegretario dello Stato della California per le politiche abitative.
Venerdì 8 Aprile 2016 presso l’aula Tesi dell’ex Facoltà di Architettura, si è svolto l’esame finale di dottorato per i candidati appartenenti al I Ciclo del Corso di Dottorato Internazionale “Urban Regeneration & Economic Development” del Dipartimento PAU avviato nel 2012

La Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) è un'agenda integrata di sostegno all'innovazione, che ha impatto sull'intera programmazione dei fondi strutturali e di investimento europei, e con cui le Regioni rafforzano e orientano gli investimenti in ricerca, sviluppo e innovazione come parte del contributo delle politiche regionali
The conference offered an unique opportunity to form a permanent international network of research facilities.
After being established, the network developed joint research programs for the period 2014-2020 and, in agreement with local governments. It contributed to the definition of operational programs
CLUDs research project's publishable summary has been approved by the European Commission and it is the basis for the written by CORDIS science editors. Results in Brief are published in six languages to support the dissemination and exploitation of EU research results. They are part of the free services provided by the European Commission though CORDIS, the primary repository and website for EU-funded projects and results.

The Second International Workshop "Sustainable Urban Development: The role of urban rural regeneration in regional context" was part of the activities planned by the research Cluds. The event, organized in collaboration with the San Diego State University, was held in San Diego, CA. The workshop pursued the objective to summarize the activities carried out during the Working Package No.2 Research Cluds
In Boston, MA, USA, at the Northeastern University, in April 2013, an institutional workshop was held in order to establish the international cooperation between the Northeastern University and the Università Mediterranea from Reggio Calabria, Italy, for the extension of the international doctorate "Urban Regeneration and Economic Development"
The International research partners presented the first work package findings in Reggio Calabria on 11-15th June 2011. In particular they shared the successful factors of the public- private partnerships acting on urban regeneration initiatives in the metropolitan area of Boston

The OPEN DAYs had the objective to present and promote the CLUDs project funded by the 7th Framework Programme of European Union Research within the specific IRSES Marie Curie Action. The implementation of the project was based on a network of four EU universities (Reggio Calabria, Salford, Uppsala, Rome) and two US universities (Northeastern University of Boston, San Diego State University)
The expected result was to bring together an international and interdisciplinary group of research team for the purpose of forming an excellent centre of synergy in research and innovation transfer in the field of Public Private Partnership applied to urban regeneration actions and policies
The specific objective of the WP2 concerned “Setting up an analytical process to understand how a territorial milieu could reinforce local urban regeneration initiatives”. The research activities were implemented in the San Diego area, through selected case studies
